About
The Good Wolf Girl
Feeding my good wolf through the ups and downs of life. Authentically, and out loud.
It all started when…
I left my ten year career in Corrections to pursue my lifelong dream of opening my very own small business. Cue the tiny cafe- barely more than 100 square feet, but big enough to see those dreams come true. After leasing the space in October of 2021 I spent the next four months navigating permitting, finding suppliers and learning the painstaking process of opening a brick and mortar business. Along the way I documented my journey online, hoping to help anyone else who may be interested in opening their own little business one day.
On February 2, 2022 I opened the doors to The Good Wolf Cafe & Co. The name came from the Cherokee Tale of Two Wolves, which I found while teaching programs as a correctional officer. I made it clear I am NOT Indigenous, but have a deep respect for Indigenous culture and practices. I also used local, Indigenous owned suppliers like Spirit Bear Coffee Company, One Crafty Keeper (mugs & tumblers) and partnered with companies like S and K Collective (apparel) .
The tiny cafe came with lots of challenges like being so small it was nearly impossible to work with two people, or serve more than one at a time, having a patio that was attached to a car wash so it was constantly noisy and wet, or having hardly any air conditioning or heating so it was almost always too hot or too cold. But despite the bumps in the road, I remained incredible grateful and proud of the space.
It wasn’t just about selling coffee or baked goods. It was never about getting rich or franchising. The goal in opening the business was always to build a community. I wanted to create connection. I dreamed of having a larger space where I could host events. I wanted paint nights, open mic nights, speaking events and more. I wanted to spread love and build compassion.
Ultimately, those dreams came to a halt when an incident occurred in October of 2023. I was forced to leave the tiny cafe, and attempted to open in a new location. The support from so many people encouraged me as I made this attempt, but ultimately it fell through. In the end, I lost the tiny cafe, the new location, and the mobile cafe I had acquired along the way.
One thing about me is I never dwell in sadness for too long. I could feed my bad wolf by giving up my entrepreneurship dreams all together. I could mope around and throw in the towel, but that just isn’t me. I believe in adapting and overcoming the challenges life throws at you. Did I cry? Absolutely. A lot. But then I pulled up my big girl pants and came up with a plan.
Through sharing my story and documenting my journey I’ve found some success online. I have garnered a small social media following and learned quite a bit about connecting with people online. You might’ve seen some of my popular videos about my hot-dog slinging friend, or meeting the famed New York housewife and multi-faceted entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel. This has inspired me to take my entrepreneurship journey online for now.
The vision is to share with others the things I have learned in regards to social media management and content creation. I would like to work with small businesses to help them establish or grow their presence online. I would like to help them focus on their “why.” I believe business should be about more than lining the pockets of the owner. As a consumer I want my money to go further. I am always looking to support businesses that support good causes. I will help connect for profit businesses with non-profits and charities. We will then craft their social media accounts to share the mission they choose to support, whatever it may be.
This is how I will continue to spread the word of “feeding your good wolf” through social media management and content creation. The ultimate goal is that the right space becomes available, at the right time, with the right landlord, and that I’ll be able to open my dream cafe with an online business that I’ve built to support me through those challenging first few years.
